MZI 2025 Annual Picnic

This year’s MZI Annual Picnic BBQ on August 31st was a resounding success. Held once again at Cuesta Park, the warm August afternoon was balanced with plenty of shade, making it the perfect setting for the gathering.
Over 160 people attended, and the lively atmosphere made it feel like even more. The Advanced Qigong Class of 2025, led by QiuPing and Yuhua, provided much of the legwork for the event. Although their numbers were smaller this year—since only a third of the class is based in the Bay Area—their diligence, teamwork, and dedication shone through.
As tradition holds, both old and new Advanced Class students came together to produce the event, and this year’s coordination stood out as especially smooth. Under the steady guidance of Little Bee (Randolph Tsien), the 2025 class worked seamlessly alongside alumni, ensuring the BBQ ran with focus and ease.
The program brought cheer and entertainment, highlighted by Kim’s choir group, which featured Shimu-Laoshi Sharon Zhao singing leads in *Jay Chou’s “Blue and White Porcelain” (青花瓷) and “May This World Love You” (希望你被這個世界愛著). Excellent sound quality elevated the performance, and heartfelt applause filled the park. The raffle was another crowd favorite, with meaningful prizes ranging from Master Zhao’s poetry book and a special tote bag designed by Captain Little Ink (2023 Advanced Class) to treatment sessions from MZI therapists, including the grand prize: for the first time, a free admission to Informatics Qigong Introductory Workshop.
The food was another highlight. The 2025 Advanced Class handled ordering, cooking, and serving, with Chef Allen’s short ribs earning rave reviews. The potluck tradition added even more variety, featuring sushi, fried rice, chicken, vegetables, and fruits. The San Francisco contingent, led by alumna Teresa, once again brought beloved Chinese favorites, while Little Bee’s honey milk tea delighted everyone. Many attendees also supported sustainability by bringing their own plates and cutlery, helping reduce waste.
Special thanks go out to the Picnic BBQ team: Producer Randolph Tsien, MC Sky Kim, Class of 2025 leaders QiuPing and Yuhua, Chef Allen with Andrew, Ada, Sonny, Melinda & Steve, and to Kim Lin, Yvonne, and David for coaching and directing the choir. And to Hsiao Chiu for adorning every table with her flower arrangement. Appreciation also to past Advanced Class Captains for their ongoing contributions, Wanda for accounting, and most of all to Shimu-Laoshi Sharon Zhao for guiding the spirit of love, unity, and community in alignment with Master Zhao’s vision of Informatics Qigong.
The 2025 Picnic BBQ was a joyful, seamless, and heartwarming day—a celebration of connection, tradition, and community spirit.
